The third swift was still there this morning. Evidence of a cane that I tried to help it with unsuccessfully. Tried again this afternoon but no luck. Two clips one from this morning showing the third chick and this afternoon showing the remaining pair.

After I posted yesterday I had to rescue one chick that had left the nest and was just below the camera. At this age it would not have been able to get back to the nest. All seemed well until this evening. It is Father’s Day today so was out for lunch and entertaining. This evening only 2 chicks in the nest. One had got stuck behind the stone to the right of the nest. The adults seem to be completely unaware of it. I tried to help out but I can’t find any way of reaching it. It is small and week. You can see a cane on the video that I used to try to access it but no luck. Clip shows 2 chicks in the nest and if you look carefully a small chick behind the stone to the right.

2 normal chicks and a very small one at the end of the clip to the right.

Another hot day saw 3 swifts round the house bur quieter tonight. Caught a good view of the chicks in the nest. The little one is certainly catching up with the middle one. Big one on the left and smallest one on the right.

Always seem to be busy and in the evenings have not had a view worth posting. Very hot day today with 5 swifts screaming round me in the garden. Came in early afternoon to find the chicks exposed due to the heat. At this age they don’t move much except for feeds so was lucky to catch this clip. Little one at the front. He is growing so all getting fed. The largest one is to the left and behind and the middle one to the right and behind. This is normal. It needs two parents to feed 3 chicks and will feed the larger ones first. It depends on the weather and amount of aphids and spiders in the air. It’s not a good year for aphids. Good for gardeners but not for swifts. These swifts fledged 3 chicks last year so I am hopeful. It’s all dependent on food.
