A quick look this morning saw the last chick with an adult. Now at 12.20 the nest is empty. Both chicks successfully fledged. Bon voyage.

Yesterday there were 11 swifts screaming and flying very low around the house. Almost as if they are trying to persuade our remaining chick to leave the nest. Very few visits from adults who are probably not feeding the chick trying to encourage it to leave.

It seems to me that this year has gone by very quickly. After yesterdays blog the first chick fledged. We now have the other chick spending a lot of time staring out into the big wild world. I wish them both a safe return journey to Southern Africa.

Forgot to blog last night. Still the two chicks growing well. Clip of the chaos when adult returns with food.

I have been away for a few days and as the camera is quite old am not able to access it from the internet. Just at home. One clip showing there is not much room in the nest for four swifts.

Just realised I missed the weekend. Sorry. We have had a lot of rain over the last few days. Most of the time all 4 swifts at home. Two recordings from Saturday. The first showing the two chicks looking like adult birds. The second showing all 4 in the nest. Which are the chicks.

Have been away for a few days so delighted to find our two chicks doing well. Also was out catching up with the garden when I counted a flock of 11 swifts. I counted 11 but there could have been more. I don’t remember that many at one time before so feeling upbeat about our local swifts. 2 clips. The first showing the 2 chicks with an adult at the nest entry. The second showing in chick doing “press ups”. These are wing strengthening exercises as they prepare to fly. Re bear their first flight will last for 3 years!

Not a lot of change weather or swift wise. Windy and cooler. Just one short clip. The adventurous one a bit further from the nest.
Saturday 1st July
Been out for most of the day. Not much activity as far as I could see. The chicks are growing feathers fast and preening a lot now. Clip seeing the chicks feathers.
