Sunday 9th May 2021

Much better day today. All 3 swifts out before 9am. One of the pair in the chimney nest returned at lunch time the second at about 5pm. The single swift in the bedroom nest came back about 7.30 pm. Clips from each nest.

We now have both swifts in the chimney nest. First one arrived yesterday so only a days wait for its mate. The first arrival in the bedroom nest is still waiting nearly 2 weeks now. The pair in the chimney nest have been snuggled up together since at least 6.30pm. It’s now 9pm and only just got a clip showing clearly two swifts. The singleton swift is out late tonight and is not back yet. A clip of the couple in the chimney nest.

Thursday 6th May 2021

Was watching the camera feeds while watching the news and at 6.15pm a second swift arrived in what I call the chimney nest. That’s one swift in the two nests that produced 5 successful fledglings last year. Let’s hope their mates arrive soon. 2 clips of the new arrival. I can’t reach the camera so have not been able to clean the lens so a bit blurred.

Just after it arrived.
Closer view as it was exploring the nest area.

Wednesday 5th May 2021

Better day today but still colder than it should be. We had our second COVID jabs today. The lone swift has now been here alone for 10 days. From reports the others are slow to arrive. Reports of increasing numbers over the Chanel. Yet to see a flying swift this year. They are so spectacular in the air but as you can see with very short legs they are a bit clumsy on the ground.

Not so glamorous on the ground.

Monday 3rd May 2021

Not too bad a start to the day but by late morning blowing a Gale with driving rain. Still the single swift who was out early about 9.30am but was back by midday and spent the rest of the day hunkered down. As were we all.

Sunday 2nd May 2021

Still the solitary swift in residence here. Didn’t leave til about 11 this morning not returning til 7.30pm. More straw gathering but at 9pm sat looking out of the nest entrance. I wondered if it sensed its mate but it is still alone.

Looking out into the late evening.
