Still little change in weather or swifts. Still seeing 4 flying round the house with one on each nest. Still have yet to discover another nest. Still hot and sunny. One clip today. A short closeup of one of the swifts in the chimney nest.

Another lovely sunny and very warm day. A short fly by this morning but was busy today and didn’t see or hear much activity. A couple of clips. First showing we still have 3 eggs in the bedroom nest and another showing the two swifts in the chimney nest preening.

Saw 4 swifts screaming round the house this morning when one was in each nest. Have yet to find if I have another nest. Looked round the attic late last night but saw no evidence of another nest. When they are feeding they come and go more frequently. From the Bristol blog there are loads more just over the channel due to arrive over the next couple of days. One clip tonight. A swift in the bedroom nest tending the nest area.

This is the waiting time. Every time I check the cameras there is one swift sitting on the nest. Still 3 eggs in the bedroom nest but due to position have not seen any eggs in the chimney nest, but I am sure they are there. Just let the dog out into the garden and 4 screaming swifts flying round the house. One on each nest on camera so I might have another nest somewhere. Will investigate. Two clips tonight. First the bedroom nest showing 3 eggs and then change of shift in the chimney nest

Sorry I missed last night. Too much going on. No change except I have not seen a swift in the new attic nest. In both other nests the swifts are taking it in turns to stay on the eggs and go out flying and feeding. No bangers have arrived yet so only seeing a couple of swifts flying mainly in the morning. A short clip from each nest.

Very sad morning. At about 11am I found a dead swift on the drive. It didn’t appear to be superficially injured so I don’t think it was predated. I think it’s neck may have been broken. I watered plants where I found it late last night so it happened overnight. I wonder if it flew into a house wall. I have been carefully looking at the cameras all day and only this evening saw two swifts in both of the main nests. Not a comfortable day. I have not seen any sign of a swift in the new attic nest. Attached photo of dead swift, clips from both nests.

Interesting day. This morning there were 4 swifts screaming round the house with 2 on my two occupied nests. Another was flying at the same time. Will have to check there isn’t another nest that I don’t know about. No signs of the single swift in the attic nest today. Two clips first showing both swifts in the bedroom nest with the 3 eggs. The second a close up of one of the chimney nest swifts.

Not much has changed today. Most of the time there is one swift sitting on the eggs in both nests taking it in turns. This morning 3 were screaming round the house while one remained in each nest. The single swift is out all day then returns about 8.30pm for an hour then flies off I think for the night. It seems like it is just checking the nest is empty. I do hope it’s mate turns up. Short clip showing it looking out for its mate.
Sunday 17th May 2020
Three eggs in the bedroom nest today. Looking back the third egg was laid on the 25th last year in that nest. In the end only two hatched but both fledged successfully. I am sure there are eggs in the chimney nest as there is one of the swifts on the nest all the time. The straw round the nest makes it impossible to see in the nest so I have no idea how many. No sign of any activity in the attic nest. I think the single swift was out all night.

Little to add today. Still a little cold. Amongst the fledglings in the garden was a little robin. Still just the 2 eggs in the bedroom nest. Maybe an egg in the chimney nest as the parents kept coming and going all day. It was cold. Still just a singleton in the attic nest. Watching cameras this evening the attic nest swift left at about 9.30pm. Not back yet. No clips tonight.
